Burn It All Away

Once upon a time, after I accidentally spent two years of my youth building a company I hated running, my husband took to giving me practical advice.

“Have you considered…” he’d say, after finding me collapsed on the floor in a puddle of tears.

I’d wipe the snot off my face, then look up at him.

“What I’m hearing you say,” I’d respond, practicing good communication skills, “Is burn it all down.”

Then he’d tilt his head and furrow his brow, trying to remember why he proposed to me in the first place.

Eventually, he stopped trying to rephrase what he said. “Yep,” he’d answer. “That’s what I’m saying. Burn. It. All. Down. You do you, my weirdo wife.”

Then he’d kiss me on the forehead, modeling exactly how to husband a wife who is losing it.

Anyway, six months after finding my way out of the mess I created, I heard this song for the first time: https://soundcloud.com/alimaya/om-namo-kali

Now I listen to it every morning.

Om Namo Kali Kali Om Namo

Oh Great Mother we invoke you in the space

Take away the pain and fill us with your grace.

Burn it all away Kali, burn it all away

If it doesn't serve us then burn it all away

Thanks, hubs, for not divorcing me during my Saturn Return. I know you don’t know what that is, but you weathered it like a champ and I love you.

Anyone else have a “burn it all away” situation that’s ripe for action? Before you get too worried, please note that “burn it all away” means “release everything that’s keeping you stuck in a situation that isn’t serving you.”

A good clue that it’s a “burn it all away” situation? You know what you want to do, but the thought of actually doing it is terrifying.
