On Knowing Nothing
Given my hobbies and interests, I naturally assumed that the most fascinating part of pregnancy would be the trippy aspects.
You know what I mean.
The fact that I’m serving as a portal for a spirit to come to Earth.
The rite of passage stuff. The journey from maiden to mother. Adopting a new identity, evolving in my understanding of self.
The ways I thought the veil might thin—where I might feel more connected to the spirit world than normal. More trance-y and dance-y and connected to different dimensions.
But do you know what’s actually the most fascinating part of pregnancy?
The fact that I can have to pee so badly yet experience not one iota of relief after using the loo.
Not one iota!
Because the issue isn’t the amount of liquid in my body.
It’s the fact that another human’s fist is tenderly and lovingly pummeling my bladder.
Oh, human-ing.
No getting around the material plane, is there?
What a journey.
Xo,
Your friend who has surrendered any sense of knowing what to expect.
Do you know that I’ve been thinking, “Well, a c-section doesn’t sound so bad,” lately? WHEN I THOUGHT I’D WANT TO GIVE BIRTH IN A CREEK AND GNAW ON MY OWN PLACENTA?!
Taking it as it comes.
One day at a time.
All that jazz.
Morning Musings is a delight-first writing practice where I wake up, put my fingers on the keyboard and see if any ideas want to play. The delightful humans who read these musings tend to see them as an invitation to slow down, have a virtual cup of coffee together, and contemplate the human experience.
